Memorial Day Service – Sunday 24th May
2026 Memorial Service – Sunday May 24th, 12 Noon
The Friends of Lavenham Airfield invite you to join us on Sunday 24th May for a service celebrating the legacy of the 487th Bomb Group who were based at RAF Lavenham during World War II.
From midday, Lavenham Airfield will be open for a rededication of the memorial to the 233 men who flew from Station 137 and never returned.
Everyone is welcome – bring a picnic, learn about the Airfield and hear the names of those brave men who gave so much in the cause of freedom read aloud.

Please remember the ground crews. They didn’t get much publicity but their work was essential.
Thanks William, of course, all personnel are remembered, in 2024 we were fortunate to have the family of Leo Wingate (Personal Equipment Officer) attend the service and read excerpts from his war diary.
